Mermaid's Heritage Building was originally constructed as Thomas and Dawson's General Store in 1850, had a major facelift in 1905, and has been thoroughly renovated and luxuriously furnished in recent years, to maintain the style and vastly improved comfort and security. The embossed tin ceiling was installed and the Saloon Facade was added, making 'Thomas's Old Stand' quite unique in Charlottetown.
